Outdoor Kitchen to Outdoor Oasis
By transforming an isolated outdoor kitchen into the center of a complete backyard experience, this design created a cohesive outdoor living space with room to cook, gather, relax, and enjoy the lake beyond.

The owners had an outdoor kitchen, but their backyard never felt complete. The kitchen sat by itself and was rarely used, leaving the family without the warm, inviting outdoor space they wanted for everyday enjoyment and time with friends. They envisioned a backyard with a fireplace, a swing, an eating area, a fire pit, green space, and better access from the home to the yard.
Design
Because the home had a traditional architectural style, every new element was designed with detailing that felt natural and cohesive. The goal was to make the added spaces feel as though they had always belonged. A central axis connected the house to the lake, while new doors from the kitchen provided easier access to the backyard and a stronger sense of flow between indoor and outdoor living.
Create
The completed design now feels like one integrated backyard environment rather than a collection of separate features. The fireplace creates a distinct gathering space through its placement and orientation, while the fountain adds the soothing sound of water and reinforces the natural setting near the lake. Insets of bluestone define smaller outdoor rooms and add interest while keeping more expensive materials focused in select areas. A wind sculpture in the lawn adds movement and visual appeal, giving the space a finished, memorable quality, whether the breeze is blowing or still on a calm, serene day.
