B-K Lighting University

It’s always good when I specify landscape lighting to know as much as possible about the company and the quality of the fixtures I am specifying so that my clients are getting the best value. There is no better way to do this than to visit the factory!

B-K Lighting, headquartered in Madeira, California, hosted their bi-annual B-K University in November 2017 which I attended as the guest of Bryan Jenkins of SESCO Lighting. SESCO Lighting is a regional lighting representative for numerous lines of lighting companies including B-K Lighting.

Arriving on a Thursday, we attended all day sessions and a factory tour on Friday and Saturday to learn more about the quality of their fixtures and what separates them from their competitors. Not only did we tour the factory, we actually were able to make our own fixtures from scratch with the help of the employees.

Starting with a bar of aluminum, we cored and cut it to make the fixture shape, powdercoated it, added the lens and wiring and mailed it to ourselves so we could see the entire process. I have to say that it really was an amazing operation! They sell parking lot fixtures, uplights, bollards, wall mounted fixtures and just about any other kind of landscape fixtures you can imagine.

We stayed at the beautiful Tenaya Lodge located just outside of Yosemite National Park, a truly grand place to visit. On Sunday, we were able to go El Capitan, Tunnel View, Yosemite Falls and so many streams, meadows and amazing landforms! I was also able to learn how to fly fish which was such a treat, walking up the streams of water. If you have never been, you need to put this trip on your bucket list!
